Djiboutian artist Fadumo Ahmed Dhimbiil made an impact as a poet, singer, songwriter and theater director internationally. Moving to Mogadishu in 1967 at age 19 from her home in Djibouti City, she met and collaborated with other artists, including touring a play to different cities around Somalia. She returned to Djibouti in 1975 and worked with the band Gaan Maan. Although she later moved to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, she once again returned to Djibouti in 2004.
