This Day in History: 1998-10-29

Chiaki Mukai, the first Japanese woman in space and the first Asian woman in space, became the the first Japanese citizen to have two spaceflights when the Space Shuttle Discovery launched on the STS-95 mission. She’d first gone into space on the STS-65 mission aboard Space Shuttle Columbia in July 1994.
