Grace Nies Fletcher was an author who lived in Dorchester while her father was pastor of the Stanton Avenue Methodist Church. A graduate of Boston University, she began writing poetry at an early age, some of which was published in a local newspaper when she was just seven years old. Later her stories and articles were published in The Saturday Evening Post, Reader’s Digest, Woman’s Home Companion, and other national magazines. Fletcher wrote biographies and novels as well, some of them reminiscences about her father’s work. In 1949, she won the Gold Medal of the New England Women’s Press Association for the best magazine story by a New England writer.
