Gillian Perry was an internationally recognised authority on botanical nomenclature. Her interest developed from her work as a botanist with the Western Australian Herbarium where she became expert in identifying and naming weedy species for Department of Agriculture officers. Perry was active in international forums on the clarification of rules and conventions relating to the application of botanical names.
