Nació en la Ciudad de México, el 11 de marzo de 1971. Narradora, traductora y profesora. Estudió la Licenciatura en Lengua y Literatura Modernas Inglesas en la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México unam; la Maestría y el Doctorado en Español y Literatura Latinoamericana en el Departamento de Español y Portugués de la Universidad de Toronto uoft.
Traductora certificada por la American Translators Association (ata). Profesora de Literatura y Creación Literaria en la Universidad de Toronto y la Universidad de York, Campus Glendon, desde 2008 hasta la fecha.
Ha obtenido la beca del programa Jóvenes Escritores del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes inba en la categoría de cuento en 1993 y 1994; la Beca del Centro Mexicano de Escritores cme, en la categoría de cuento en 1994 y 1995; la beca del programa Jóvenes Creadores del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, fonca, en el área de cuento en 1995 y 1996; la beca Writer’s Reserve Grant (Ontario Council for the Arts) en 2010 y 2014; y la beca Theatre Creator’s Reserve (Ontario Council for the Arts) en 2015.

Mención honorífica en el Premio Nuestra Palabra 2008 por Las mil vidas del tío Co. Finalista en el Premio Carter v. She was born in Mexico City on March 11, 1971. A narrator, translator, and professor, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Modern English Language and Literature from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and a Master’s and Doctorate in Spanish and Latin American Literature from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Toronto (UOTF).
Certified translator by the American Translators Association (ATA). Professor of Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Toronto and York University, Glendon Campus, from 2008 to the present.
She has received the Young Writers program grant from the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) in the short story category in 1993 and 1994; the Mexican Center of Writers (CME) grant in the short story category in 1994 and 1995; the Young Creators program grant from the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) in the short story area in 1995 and 1996; the Writer’s Reserve Grant (Ontario Council for the Arts) in 2010 and 2014; and the Theatre Creator’s Reserve Grant (Ontario Council for the Arts) in 2015.

Honorable Mention in the 2008 Nuestra Palabra Prize for Las mil vidas del tío Co (Uncle Co’s Thousand Lives). Finalist in the 2012 and 2016 Carter v. Cooper Exile Short Story Award for Paternity, Revisited and The Last Confession, respectively. Winner of the 2015 International Latino Book Award for De Tránsito (In Transit).
