The following was written by Nina Baker and is excerpted from the book From Alchemy to Transport Phenomena: A Global History of Women in Chemical Engineering.
Moving now to a tiny selection of the hundreds of living American women doing significant chemical engineering work in academia and industry, I will start with the 2022 President of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Christine Sharon Grant, BS, MS, PhD, who although by no means the first black woman in American chemical engineering, is nevertheless an important role model for today’s early career women in the field. Her work looks at fouling mechanisms and decontamination methods. Her work investigates the chemical and transport processes that occur at the solid-liquid interface, and drive the formation and removal of deposits.
