On the industrial side there are an increasing number of younger women entering the traditionally male-dominated fields relating to mining and petrochemicals. One of the more senior of these is Zanele Madinane, with BScEng and MScEng from the University of Cape Town, who started her career, as a process specialist, at the BHP Billiton Bayside Smelter (1989) She progressed through scheduling and planning roles at SAPREF and Mondi Groups to senior management roles with mining and metals group, South32, at their Hillside aluminium smelter, Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, where she is currently their Manager of Treatment & Logistics.
