The following was written by Nina Baker and is excerpted from the book From Alchemy to Transport Phenomena: A Global History of Women in Chemical Engineering.

Probably Africa’s earliest woman in chemical engineering, Engr. (Mrs.) Modupeola Oluremilekun Kasim BSC, MSc, FNSE, (1945-2021) gained her degree in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University, Columbus, on the African Scholarship Programme of American Universities, followed by an MSc in Operations Research (1975).
Unlike Mahamadou and Hlongwa, she remained in the field for a 32-year career in various organizations. She taught mathematics at Kings College, Lagos (1969-71) before becoming a Standards Engineer at the Nigerian Standards Organization (1971-73), later joining the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO) (1976-2005). Her work at FIIRO was in operational research analysis, and process engineering economics and she authored over 50 research and other publications. She was also active in the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers.
