Dr Marlene Kanga, AM FTSE HonFIEAust HonFIChemE was only the third woman to graduate in chemical engineering from IIT Bombay, but when she was appointed as the president of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (2017-19) it was the first time any chemical engineer had taken that role. Although born in India, Kanga’s education and career epitomises the international nature of chemical engineering. Although now much engaged with such global leadership, her other posts such as Chair of the international Institution of Chemical Engineers Safety Centre, reveal her specialism in advancing process safety practice.
