From the next generation of Greek women, Maria Flytzani-Stephanopoulos (1950-2019) BSc, PhD, FAIChE, FAAAS, was born and educated in Greece, getting her degree from NTUA (1973) but then went to do her PhD at the University of Minnesota (1975) and remained in the USA for the rest of her career. Her research was in atomically dispersed heterogeneous metal catalysts for efficient production of fuels and chemicals and, at the time of her death, she was Robert and Marcy Haber Endowed Professor in Energy Sustainability at Tufts University.
