In contrast to Raper, Katalin M. Hangos has had her career in her own homeland, having gained her PhD in chemical engineering from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest (1984) and DSc in process engineering from Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1994), where she is now a research professor in the Systems and Control Laboratory of the Institute for Computer Science and Control. Hangos researches dynamic modelling of process systems for control and diagnostic purposes, dynamic analysis and control of smooth nonlinear systems, and model-based diagnosis based on discrete event and intelligent methods.
