The following was written by Nina Baker and is excerpted from the book From Alchemy to Transport Phenomena: A Global History of Women in Chemical Engineering.

There was then a long gap until the next woman chemical engineering graduate at the National Technical University of Athens: Eleni Lefkiadou-Kelperi in 1945, and then Chrysoula Troupkou and Elyta Tsileni in 1946. Troupkou worked initially in Dimitrakopoulos and Xenakis’ factory and then returned to academic research rising to become Chair of Engineering. The two women started at the Polytechnic on the day war was declared in 1940 and the war delayed their degrees, often having to manage without the normal equipment, to which the invading Germans had helped themselves. Despite the EDEM interviews (Batra, 2001), we unfortunately know nothing more about these women’s careers after they graduated.
