The following is excerpted from Infinite Women creator Allison Tyra’s book Uncredited: Women’s Overlooked, Misattributed, and Stolen Work.

Argentine photographer Josefina Oliver was largely unknown until her great-niece found her archives in 2006, fifty years after she died. In Oliver’s diary, Patricia Viaña discovered more than 150 photos between the pages—a collection that grew to more than 2,500 as she dug through twenty volumes of diaries. In 2007, she established the Archivo Josefina Oliver, researching to establish the facts of Oliver’s life and working to bring her great-aunt’s oeuvre to public and industry attention, including organising the digitisation of her photographs to better share them with the world. Oliver’s work was exhibited at Buenos Aires’s Palais de Glace in 2014. Alejandro Castellanos, Director of the Centre of the Image in Mexico City, described the collection as “a very important archive for Latin American photography.”
