Realizó algunos estudios de francés e italiano en el Colegio de las Vizcaínas y tomó clases particulares de piano, guitarra, mandolina, violín, cítara y pintura. Fue representante en México del Grupo Literario Internacional Antorcha de Chile.
Adela Varela de Curto fue poeta y fue compositora de valses desde los trece años. Uno de su autoría fue interpretado por la Orquesta Típica de Miguel Lerdo de Tejada, en 1910. Realizó su primera y única exposición pictórica conformada por cincuenta y un óleos. De sus veintitrés poemarios, sólo publicó tres y los demás se conservan inéditos. En ellos expresa, primordialmente en sonetos (ha escrito aproximadamente dos mil quinientos), sus sentimientos más íntimos con formas decimonónicas. Tiene también cantares y romances.
She studied French and Italian at the Colegio de las Vizcaínas and took private lessons in piano, guitar, mandolin, violin, zither, and painting. She was the representative in Mexico of the Antorcha International Literary Group of Chile.
Adela Varela de Curto was a poet and composer of waltzes from the age of thirteen. One of her compositions was performed by Miguel Lerdo de Tejada’s Orquesta Típica in 1910. She held her first and only art exhibition, consisting of fifty-one oil paintings. Of her twenty-three books of poetry, only three were published; the rest remain unpublished. In them, she expresses her most intimate feelings, primarily in sonnets (she wrote approximately two thousand five hundred), using nineteenth-century forms. She also wrote songs and ballads.
