Agnes Repplier, an American essayist and critic, born in Philadelphia, of French descent. She contributed to many periodicals such as Scribner’s and the Atlantic Monthly, and has spent much of her time in Europe. Her essays are distinguished for dignity of treatment, a lucid style, and a delicate sense of humor, with not a little irony.
In 1902 the University of Pennsylvania conferred upon her the degree of Litt. D. Miss Repplier’s published volumes include: Books and Men, Points of View, Essays in Idleness, The Fireside Sphinx, Comprises, Americans and Others.
