French noblewoman Anne d’Alençon, Lady of La Guerche, was Marquise of Montferrat as the wife of William IX, Marquis of Montferrat. After her husband died while their son, Boniface, was still an infant, Anne served as the Regent of the Marquisate of Montferrat for her son from 1518 until he also died, in 1530. Anne’s daughter, Margherita Paleologa, ruled Montferrat in her own right from 1533 to 1536 though it was occupied by Spain at the time.
