Aurora [Maura] Ocampo [Alfaro] fue una investigadora y académica mexicana. Maestra en Letras y Doctora en Filología por la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México unam. Investigadora del Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas iifl. Miembro de la Asociación de Escritores de México aemac y de la Asociación Internacional de Hispanistas aih. Desde 1969, impartió las cátedras de Literatura Mexicana, Narrativa Iberoamericana del siglo XX, Novela Hispanoamericana Contemporánea y Literatura Iberoamericana Comparada en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras ffyl y el Centro de Enseñanza para Extranjeros cepe. Ingresó al Sistema Nacional de Investigadores sni en 1984.
En 1956, Junto con Julio Jiménez Rueda y María del Carmen Millán, fundó el Centro de Estudios Literarios cel (iifl-unam), donde fue directora, durante más de veinte años, del Diccionario de Escritores Mexicanos, publicado en nueve volúmenes.
Además de este proyecto, también se dedicó desde 1957 a la investigación, rescate, estudio y difusión de la cuentística mexicana, especialmente la escrita por mujeres, así como a la crítica de la novela mexicana contemporánea y la bibliografía de la literatura mexicana en general. Fue profesora en la Universidad de California uc y en el Darthmouth College de Hanover de 1962 a 1975.
Dictó conferencias en México y en el extranjero. Formó parte del jurado de diversos premios nacionales de narrativa y fue miembro del consejo editorial de la revista Literatura Mexicana.
Entre los galardones obtenidos a lo largo de su trayectoria sobresalen el Reconocimiento Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz 2004, otorgado por la Coordinación de Humanidades y Rectoría de la unam; el homenaje del iifl (unam), por sus setenta y cinco años cumplidos y haber terminado el Diccionario de escritores mexicanos. Siglo XX, en 2005; y el Premio al Mérito Literario, por su contribución al desarrollo de las letras mexicanas a través de la investigación y la docencia universitarias, otorgado por el Instituto Zacatecano de Cultura izc Ramón López Velarde, en 2009.
En 2010, fue homenajeada por su trayectoria y sus 80 años de edad en la unam, en el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes inba durante el ciclo “Protagonistas de la literatura mexicana” y en la Feria del Libro de Saltillo, Coahuila.
Aurora [Maura] Ocampo [Alfaro] was a Mexican researcher and academic. She held a Master’s degree in Literature and a Doctorate in Philology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She was a researcher at the Institute of Philological Research (IIFL). She was a member of the Mexican Writers’ Association (AEMAC) and the International Association of Hispanists (AIH). From 1969, she taught courses in Mexican Literature, 20th-Century Ibero-American Narrative, Contemporary Latin American Novel, and Comparative Ibero-American Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (FFYL) and the Center for Foreign Language Teaching (CEP). She joined the National System of Researchers (SNI) in 1984.
In 1956, together with Julio Jiménez Rueda and María del Carmen Millán, she founded the Center for Literary Studies cel (iifl-unam), where she was director, for more than twenty years, of the Dictionary of Mexican Writers, published in nine volumes.
In addition to this project, she also dedicated herself from 1957 onward to the research, preservation, study, and dissemination of Mexican short stories, especially those written by women, as well as to the criticism of the contemporary Mexican novel and the bibliography of Mexican literature in general. She was a professor at the University of California, S.C. and Dartmouth College in Hanover from 1962 to 1975.
She gave lectures in Mexico and abroad. she served on the jury for several national narrative awards and was a member of the editorial board of the magazine Literatura Mexicana.
Among the awards received throughout her career, the following stand out: the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Recognition 2004, granted by the Coordination of Humanities and the Rector’s Office of UNAM; the tribute from the IIFL (UNAM), for her seventy-fifth birthday and for having completed the Dictionary of Mexican Writers. 20th Century, in 2005; and the Literary Merit Award, for her contribution to the development of Mexican literature through university research and teaching, granted by the Zacatecas Institute of Culture Ramón López Velarde, in 2009.
In 2010, she was honored for her career and her 80 years of age at UNAM, at the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) during the cycle “Protagonists of Mexican Literature” and at the Saltillo Book Fair, Coahuila.
