Carly Findlay is an Australian disability advocate who regularly faces invasive questions and insulting comments about her skin condition, ichthyosis. Perhaps the most offensive setting was in a radio interview for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 2018, where she was there to discuss that exact topic, yet comments from host Jon Faine included asking her to justify calling herself disabled because she was not in a wheelchair, saying she looked like a burn victim and suggesting her face would be good at Halloween. When she mentioned that people have the gall to ask whether she can have sex, he asked, “What’s the answer?” When she said that she doesn’t like when people say they’ll pray for her, he jumped in to defend the behaviour she just said was offensive.
