American educator, from 1899 to 1911 president of Wellesley College. She was educated by private tutors and abroad, and in 1899 received the degrees of A. M. from the University of Michigan and that of Litt. D. from Brown. She has contributed reviews, essays and verse to magazines, and published several volumes.
Her works include; “Some Ideals in the Education of Women,” “A Brief Pilgrimage in the Holy Land,’ and the “College Year.”
