Cécile Chaminade, a French musical composer, born in Paris. At the age of eight her talent was shown by writing of some church music which attracted Bizet’s attention; and at eighteen she came out of public as a pianist. Her compositions, both songs and instrumental pieces, were soon produced in profusion: melodious, interesting, and often charming, they became very popular, without being entitled to rank with the greater style of music.
In 1908 she visited America and was warmly received.
