Clara Wehl was a plant collector who migrated to South Australia in 1848 with her brother and sister Ferdinand and Bertha Mueller. In 1853 she married Dr Edward Wehl and settled in Mt Gambier and later Millicent. She collected plants from across southeast South Australia up until the 1890s and sent them to her brother in Melbourne. Over 150 specimens survive in the National Herbarium of Victoria. Other members of her family, including daughters Louise and Marie, also collected plants for Mueller. The genus Wehlia was named in honour of Clara and Edward Wehl.
