Clare of Assisi (Chiara Offreduccio) was an Italian saint closely linked to Francis of Assisi. She founded the Order of Poor Ladies, a Franciscan monastic order known for its strict poverty.
Clare’s authored Rule of Life was a woman’s first set of monastic guidelines. The order was later named the Order of Saint Clare, or the Poor Clares.
Her feast day is celebrated by Catholics on 11 August.
