In some instances, men destroy women’s work after the woman has died. After Australian painter Clarice Beckett died of pneumonia in 1935, her father destroyed many of her paintings. The remainder were carelessly stored in a shed, where the damp and rodents destroyed more of them. It took until the 1960s for Beckett’s sister to bring them to a Melbourne curator, and Beckett is now regarded as one of the country’s most loved artists.
