Nació en Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, el 12 de abril de 1923. Narradora y poeta. Estudió Derecho y la Maestría en Letras Modernas en la UNAM; Estilística e Historia del Arte en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid; Lingüística y Literatura en la ANUIES y Radio en el Instituto Latinoamericano de Comunicación. Ha sido profesora en las escuelas de Bellas Artes de Veracruz, Cuernavaca, Estado de México, en la UIA y la Escuela de Periodismo Carlos Septién García; fundadora de Radio UNAM y productora de programas radiofónicos; jefa de redacción de Barcos de Papel; miembro del consejo de redacción de Suma Bibliográfica. Colaboradora de Barcos de Papel, Fuensanta, La Palabra y El Hombre, Nivel, Poesía de América, Suma Bibliográfica, y Revista de la UIA. Premio Nacional de Poesía de Mazatlán 1980 por el poema “¿Qué es lo vivido?”. Premio Iberoamericano de Poesía Ramón López Velarde 2013. Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes en Literatura y Lingüística, 2014. Medalla José Emilio Pacheco 2016, por su trayectoria. En 2008, el INBA le rindió un homenaje por sus 85 años de vida. En reconocimiento a su trayectoria, dos galardones llevan su nombre: el Premio Estatal de Poesía Dolores Castro, otorgado por el Instituto Tlaxcalteca de la Cultura, y el Premio Dolores Castro de Poesía, Narrativa y Ensayo Escrita por Mujeres, que concede el H. Ayuntamiento de Aguascalientes, por medio del Instituto Municipal Aguascalentense para la Cultura.
She was born in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, on April 12, 1923. A novelist and poet, she studied Law and earned a Master’s degree in Modern Letters from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); Stylistics and Art History at the Complutense University of Madrid; Linguistics and Literature at the National Association of Universities and Institutions of Higher Education (ANUIES); and Radio at the Latin American Institute of Communication. She has taught at the Schools of Fine Arts in Veracruz, Cuernavaca, and the State of Mexico, as well as at the Ibero-American University (UIA) and the Carlos Septién García School of Journalism. She was the founder of Radio UNAM and a producer of radio programs; editor-in-chief of Barcos de Papel; and a member of the editorial board of Suma Bibliográfica. She contributed to Barcos de Papel, Fuensanta, La Palabra y El Hombre, Nivel, Poesía de América, Suma Bibliográfica, and Revista de la UIA. She received the 1980 Mazatlán National Poetry Prize for her poem “¿Qué es lo vivido?” (What is what has been lived?). She received the Ramón López Velarde Ibero-American Poetry Prize in 2013, the National Prize for Sciences and Arts in Literature and Linguistics in 2014, and the José Emilio Pacheco Medal in 2016 for her lifetime achievement. In 2008, the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) honored her on her 85th birthday. In recognition of her career, two awards bear her name: the Dolores Castro State Poetry Prize, awarded by the Tlaxcala Institute of Culture, and the Dolores Castro Prize for Poetry, Narrative, and Essay Written by Women, awarded by the Aguascalientes City Council through the Aguascalientes Municipal Institute for Culture.
