Edith Anne Stoney, an Anglo-Irish physicist and a pioneer in medical physics, was born in Dublin in 1869. During World War I, she managed X-ray facilities in field hospitals, introducing stereoscopy for bullet localization and using X-rays to diagnose gas gangrene. Stoney was awarded multiple medals for her service and later became a lecturer in physics, advocating for women in engineering and science. She died in 1938.
