Ekaterina Alekseevna Feoktistova BSc, PhD (1915-1987), was born in Russia but her university education and first industrial jobs were in Ukraine, before joining Soviet government nuclear laboratories. She was in the team which developed an explosive composition with a low detonation velocity for the Soviet atomic bomb project. She continued to work on explosives, leading a laboratory from 1952, gained her doctorate in 1969 and retired in 1979.
