Emma Eames, an American operatic prima donna, born in Shanghai, China, studied in Boston, and later with Marchisi in Paris. In 1889 she successfully sang Juliet in Gonnod’s opera in Paris, and after appeared as Marguerite in Faust. Two years later she sang in London, and there married Julian Story, the portrait painter. In November, 1891, she made her début at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, where her beautiful voice was much admired, and where she sang for a number of years.
In 1907 she separated from Mr. Story and in 1911 was married to the baritone, Emilio de Gogorza.
