From Famous Women: An Outline of Feminine Achievement Through the Ages With Life Stories of Five Hundred Noted Women. Written by Joseph Adelman, published 1926 by Ellis M Lonow Company:
Evelyn Beatrice Longman, an American sculptor, born at Winchester, Ohio. She studied at the Art Institute, Chicago, and from 1901 worked in New York as assistant to Daniel C. French.
Her first important piece was a male statue, Victory, in the Festival Hall at the St. Louis Exposition, for which she was awarded a silver medal. In 1906 she won the $20,000 competition for the bronze doors of the Naval Academy Chapel at Annapolis. These doors executed in low relief, are remarkable for beauty of line and balance of composition.
Besides her statues, Miss Longman has produced a number of fine portrait busts.
