American writer and public speaker Fran Lebowitz has been called a modern-day Dorothy Parker by the New York Times for her sardonic commentary on American life. Her books include Metropolitan Life (1978) and Social Studies (1981). She has been the subject of two Martin Scorsese projects, documentary film Public Speaking (2010) and docu-series Pretend It’s a City (2021), in addition to appearances in other documentaries and as herself on television.
