From Famous Women: An Outline of Feminine Achievement Through the Ages With Life Stories of Five Hundred Noted Women. Written by Joseph Adelman, published 1926 by Ellis M Lonow Company:
American dramatic soprano, born in Melrose, Mass. After studying with Madame Thursby in New York, and with Trabaddlo in Paris, she made her debut as Marguerite in Faust at the Royal Opera in Berlin in 1901 and scored a sensational success. She became a prime favorite in Berlin and in 1906 appeared at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, where she has been a regular member for fifteen years. Her voice is a powerful soprano of rare beauty, and her acting in parts like Tosca and Carmen is of a high order.
