Heather Christian is an Obie Award-winning composer and singer-songwriter. Recently named a Time Out New York Off-Off Broadway Innovator To Watch, the multifaceted artist consistently illustrate her strong abilities through the realms of theatre, film and contemporary avant-garde folk music.
Christian composed BAM’s The World is Round (2014 Obie, Special Citation), as well as performing in TEAM’s Mission Drift at the National Theater in London, where she was nominated for the Drama League Outstanding Performance Award.
Gregory Go Boom, a short comedy drama film Christian scored, won Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize in 2013. The artist also composed music and lyrics for the Ars Nova / 2015 Sundance Institute Theatre Lab’s Annie Salem, where she collaborated alongside director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812). Additionally, Christian was one of seven selected for the annual Sundance Institute 2016 Playwrights and Composers Retreat at UCross Foundation.
Christian’s most recent compositions include her first feature film Lemon, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival. Vogue featured the film as one of the “7 Best Things That Happened at This Year’s Sundance Film Festival.” Furthermore Christian composed the classic Shakespeare comedy As You Like It, showing at the Folger Theatre from January 24th – March 5th 2017.
Aside from her theatre and film works, Christian is an accomplished singer-songwriter within the Americana folk band Heather Christian & the Arbornauts. Known for her eccentric voice, she pulls from the traditional gospel canon in tandem with circus music and noise rock with “five of the most virtuosic boy prodigies she could find.”
