Helena Beristáin [Díaz] fue una investigadora y académica mexicana. Licenciada en Lengua y Literaturas Hispánicas, Maestra en Letras y en Biblioteconomía por la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México unam. En 1968, obtuvo el título de Doctora con su tesis Gramática estructural de la lengua española. Sus líneas de investigación fueron principalmente la retórica y semiótica, la naturaleza interdisciplinaria de la retórica y la didáctica de la literatura.
Fue investigadora emérita del Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México iifl (unam) y profesora en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras ffyl (unam). Redactó los nuevos programas de estudio para secundaria y preparatoria entre 1969-1972. Asimismo, fue miembro fundador y coordinadora del Seminario de Poética.
A lo largo de su trayectoria, fue partícipe de diversas comisiones evaluadoras y dictaminadoras para la elaboración de planes de estudio y programas, así como para editoriales y publicaciones periódicas. De igual forma, fue miembro honorario de la Sociedad Internacional de Historia de la Retórica y del Grupo de Asesores de la rectoría de la nueva Universidad del la Ciudad de México uacm.
Fue responsable de la primera parte del Proyecto Bitácora de Retórica de la Dirección General de Asuntos de Personal Académico dgapa y fue fundadora de la colección con el mismo nombre. También impartió cursos de actualización para profesores con la temática “Nueva didáctica de la lengua y la literatura”.
En 1989, fue galardonada con el Premio unam en Docencia en Humanidades.
Helena Beristáin Díaz was a Mexican researcher and academic. She held a Bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Language and Literature, a Master’s degree in Literature, and a Master’s degree in Library Science from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In 1968, she earned her doctorate with her dissertation, ” Structural Grammar of the Spanish Language.” Her research focused primarily on rhetoric and semiotics, the interdisciplinary nature of rhetoric, and the teaching of literature.
She was an emeritus researcher at the Institute of Philological Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (UNAM). She drafted the new curricula for secondary and preparatory schools between 1969 and 1972. She was also a founding member and coordinator of the Poetics Seminar.
Throughout her career, she participated in various evaluation and review committees for the development of curricula and programs, as well as for publishing houses and periodicals. she was also an honorary member of the International Society for the History of Rhetoric and of the Advisory Group to the Rector of the new Autonomous University of Mexico City (UACM).
She was responsible for the first part of the Rhetoric Logbook Project of the General Directorate of Academic Personnel Affairs (DGAPA) and was the founder of the collection of the same name. She also taught refresher courses for teachers on the topic of “New Didactics of Language and Literature.”
In 1989, she was awarded the UNAM Prize for Teaching in Humanities.
