Printer Theophilus Jones died in April 1736 and on 20 April his widow Jane Jones (d. 1739) announced that she would be continuing his business. She is described as a lady of birth, who had to work to support her large family. As well as continuing to print the Dublin Evening Post from Clarendon St. until 31 March 1739, she published the Life of Prince Eugene of Saxony (1737), K. L. Pollnitz’s Amusements de Spa (1737), Daniel Defoe’s Complete English tradesmen (1738), and a Letter to a lady, in praise of female learning (1739) by W. Wilkes. She began printing Sir James Ware’s History of the bishops of Ireland in 1739, but died in May 1739 before completing the job and was succeeded by her daughter Elizabeth. Elizabeth Jones, possibly helped by her two sisters, continued the family business from Clarendon St. for another two years and printed the whole of Ware’s works in 1739 as well as A. C. D’Avila, History of the civil wars of France (1740). By the time she married (1756) an engraver, Thomas Dixon, she had long ceased working as a bookseller.
