Jennifer Graves was Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Reader / Professor of Genetics, La Trobe University 1971-2001, when she moved to the Comparative Genomics Research Group, Research School of Biological Sciences, Australian National University. She has made seminal contributions to mammal genetics. Her studies of the genetic diversity of Australia’s mammals explained the organisation, function and evolution of their genes. She is recognised for her work on the origin and evolution of human sex chromosomes, the inactivation of X chromosomes and the control of DNA synthesis in mammal cells.
