Kristine Bonnevie’s competence as a college professor led to sweeping legal reform in Norway. She was nominated to a professor position in 1910, during a time when Norwegian law prevented women from holding such a position. Her colleagues, Georg Sars and Robert Collett, were so determined to keep Bonnevie that they influenced Parliament to pass an act on February 9, 1912 known as “Lex Bonnevie,” granting women the same right as men to be university professors.
