Kristine Tjøgersen (1982) holds a MA in composition from Anton Bruckner Universität in Linz in Austria, where she studied with Carola Bauckholt, and a MA in clarinet from the Norwegian Academy of Music where she studied with Hans Christian Bræin.
As a composer she has a special interest in the interplay between the visual and the auditory and how they affect each other, and her works have been performed by a.o. Arditti Quartet (UK), Ensemble Recherche (DE), Cikada, Bit-20 Ensemble and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2018 she represented Norway in Rostrum for Composers in Hungary, and in 2019 at the World Music Days in Tallinn. In 2019-20 she was a fellow at Akademie der Künste in Berlin, and in 2020 she received Arne Nordheim`s Composer Prize as well as the Pauline Hall Prize for her orchestra piece Bioluminescence.
As clarinettist she has performed at many of the major European new music festivals with the award winning ensembles Ensemble neoN, Tøyen Fil og Klafferi and asamisimasa.
Kristine Tjøgersen’s compositional practice is characterized by curiosity, imagination, humour and precision. Through her work she creates unexpected and absurd auditory situations through playing with tradition, often resulting in a particular strangeness. Her work opens up perceptions of the world as complex, alive, and ever changing and not heading towards a final climax.
