Marie-Thérèse Le Chêne was the oldest woman the SOE sent to France—age 52 when she was served as a courier and distributed anti-Nazi materials from November 1942 to August 1943. Having fled to London at the start of the war, Le Chêne and her husband returned to join the fight against the occupying Nazis. Sabotage was also a major SOE activity, and Le Chêne carried out such a mission on a canal and railway line. After the war, the Le Chênes returned to France, opening a hotel in Sainte-Menehould.
