Mary Crawford Frazer, an English author, the daughter of Thomas Crawford, the sculptor, and sister of Marion Crawford, the novelist. She was born in Rome, educated in England, and married Hugh Frazer, later Minister to Japan.
Mrs. Frazer’s finest literary work is found in her interpretations of the new Japan, the land and its people. She began writing in 1899 and since then has published a number of noted books, among them: A Diplomat’s Wife in Japan, The Customs of the Country, A Chapter of Accidents, The Splendid Porsenna, and Italian Yesterdays.
