Maxine was a pioneer in public school teaching in Nebraska, beginning her career after graduating from high school at the age of 15. She began her teaching career in the Olive School District in Nebraska, a country school where all she taught all grades. After attending Wayne State Teachers College in Nebraska, she was employed in the Fullerton, Nebraska school district as a kindergarten teacher. She taught there until she married Frank McIntyre. School district policy did not allow married women to teach in the same district as their husbands, so she retired from teaching and began to raise a family. She remained active in community service from that point on– most notably in the PTA in Pasadena, California.
Maxine McIntyre was among the many talented women of her generation who, through their accomplishments and their encouragement of those to follow, paved the way for future generations of women.
