Mireya Cueto (Ciudad de México, 1922-2013) fue narradora, dramaturga y marionetita, una de las más grandes impulsoras del teatro y la literatura infantil en México. Fue fundadora de la compañía de actores y titiriteros Tinglado, colaboradora de teatro guiñol en el INBA y guionista de programas para niños en radio y televisión. Recibió el Premio de Literatura Infantil Juan de la Cabada 1978 por Viajes de Ozomatli y Don Armadillo, el Premio Rosete Aranda del Museo Nacional del Títere en Tlaxcala en diversas ocasiones, la medalla “Mi vida en el teatro” por el Centro Mexicano ITI/Unesco/Unima en 1998 y en 2013 la Medalla de Bellas Artes por 70 años de trayectoria. En 2001, Conaculta instituyó en su honor el Festival Internacional de Títeres Mireya Cueto.
Mireya Cueto (Mexico City, 1922-2013) was a storyteller, playwright, and puppeteer, one of the greatest promoters of children’s theater and literature in Mexico. She founded the Tinglado acting and puppetry company, collaborated on puppet theater projects with the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), and wrote scripts for children’s radio and television programs. She received the Juan de la Cabada Children’s Literature Prize in 1978 for Viajes de Ozomatli y Don Armadillo (Ozomatli’s Travels and Don Armadillo), the Rosete Aranda Prize from the National Puppet Museum in Tlaxcala on several occasions, the “My Life in the Theater” medal from the Mexican Center ITI/UNESCO/UNIMA in 1998, and in 2013 the Fine Arts Medal for 70 years of service. In 2001, the National Council for Culture and the Arts (Conaculta) established the Mireya Cueto International Puppet Festival in her honor.
