Another example is Kuwaiti, Sara Hussein Akbar (b1958), a chemical petroleum engineer, and women’s rights campaigner who is considered a national hero (and Global 500 Roll of Honour from the United Nations Environmental Program) for her role coordinating the firefighting to extinguish the 700 oilwell fires started by the Iraqi regime (1991). Akbar gained her degree in chemical engineering from Kuwait University (1981) and her career took her into senior posts in the oil sector, including as co-founder and former chief executive officer of Kuwait Energy.
