Shirley Diaz (née Chuan) (1935-2021) graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a BSc in Chemical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Management at FEATI University in the Philippines. She went on to become a Professor of Maths and Chemistry at the University of the East for 17 years. She then started her own companies: East Gate International Corporation (an electrical company); Trio-Tech International (making semiconductors); and Chemacor Marketing Corporation (chemical for the textiles industries), which is still in operation. She was a member of the Women Chemical Engineers of the Philippines; Philippine Association of Chemical Suppliers; and the Women’s Management Association, as well as being active in many faith organisations
