Susan M. Osborne, an American philanthropist. At the age of nineteen, she founded the Home for Friendless Women and Girls in New York City, and later established a refuge shelter there.
During forty-one years Miss Osborne continued as the active head of these institutions, which were supported by voluntary subscriptions, and it was one of her rules that no one was to be turned away.
Besides caring for homeless girls and women, Miss Osborne also fed, clothed, and partly supported many homeless men.
