Vera Nabokova gave up her own career to become her husband’s editor, reviewer, typist, business manager, and agent, as well as supporting their family financially as a secretary and translator. She learned to drive just so she could chauffeur him around and even reportedly cut his food for him at meals. She also saved the manuscript of his most famous work, Lolita, when a frustrated Nabokov threatened to burn it.
