On the brewing side, British chemical engineer Julia Austin got her masters at Newcastle University from where she went to become a production manager at Arizona Chemical, a company focussed on polymers. A chance visit to an enthusiastic craft brewery in Vancouver encouraged her to set up a brewery with her husband in 2011: the Tyne Bank Brewery in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, which is now highly successful both financially and in awards.
