Raised in Boston, Dr. Nute attended the Harris School and Dorchester High School. She enrolled at Wellesley College and then transferred to the University of Michigan Medical School, one of the first to admit women. She was awarded her medical degree in 1897. Dr. Nute held the position of examining physician for entering Wellesley College students for 16 years and served on the staff of the New England Hospital for Women and Children for over 40 years. She retired in 1939. When she first began practicing, Dr. Nute at first made her rounds by horse and buggy. Later she used her bicycle and drove a Model T.
