After Monica Dacon was appointed Deputy Governor General of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in 2001, she temporarily served as acting Governor General in June 2002 between the death of Governor General Charles Antrobus and the appointment of his replacement, Frederick Ballantyne. The widow of parliamentarian St. Clair Dacon, she had spent most of her career in education, having started teaching in 1952 and continued to do so for decades.
