The following is excerpted from “400 Outstanding Women of the World and the Costumology of Their Time” by Minna Moscherosch Schmidt, published in 1933.

Mrs. Elmer Papp was born in 1881 and she died in 1923. Her ardent patriotic poems made her name known. She published two volumes of poetry and she wrote the Hungarian Credo which became the national prayer for Hungary and which lives in the heart of every child, young girl and man, and gives faith and hope to the Hungarian nation. This prayer not only endeared the name of Mrs. Papp-Vary to everyone but placed her in Hungarian history. At all solemn occasions, joyous and sad alike, this song is heard everywhere where Hungarians live.
